Sixth Sunday of Easter

Saint for the day: Dominican Bl. Imelda (1322-1333)

Scripture readings for today's liturgy:

Acts 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-48

Psalm 98

1 John 4:7-10

John 15:9-17

Keep this in mind: it’s not that we have loved God, but that He loved US.

As we move towards the end of our Easter Celebrations we get some overlapping in our scripture readings. Especially between the Sunday readings and the weekday cycle. We have to be careful that we don’t just say, “… been there. Done that!” and move on.

Then, as if the Church knew that we might begin to get tired of hearing the same old stuff over and over, today, we are given a multitude of images to ponder: on the “Saint Cycle” we have the feast of Blessed Imelda. You can click on the “link” above to read her incredible story centered on the Eucharist.

It’s also the commemoration of the “Fatima Appearances” (Here’s the “link” to that reflection) Fatima: read the entire story:

And, as if that wasn’t enough, today is also Mother’s Day in many places. Lots of things for us to contemplate. So, I will leave you with one thought and let you weave it all together as it fits into your own life: words from St. John in our 2nd reading: “In this is love. Not that WE have loved God but that HE has (first) loved us!”

Then the Gospel goes on to say: “It is not you who choose me but I who chose you … to go out and bear much fruit.”

Think about it! And God Bless our mothers both living and deceased. Amen
