Eleventh Sunday of the Church year.

Saint for the day: St. Albert Chmielowski (1845-1916)

Scripture readings for today's liturgy:

Ezekiel 17:22-24

Psalm 92

2 Corinthians 56-10

Mark 4: 26-34

“The Kingdom of God is like a tiny mustard seed…”

Most of us, when we talk about the “Kingdom of God,” think of it as being out there somewhere else but Jesus tells us that the “Kingdom of God is within!” How can the entire “Kingdom of God” be contained within a tiny mustard seed? That’s because we always think of the “Kingdom” as being something that we work to get to and create. That’s why Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz” is told by the Good Witch of the East, “You’ve always had it within you the power to get home.” She only has to click her heels together and she’s there!

How many of us wait around looking for ways to find the holiness of God - out there somewhere and forget that it’s within.

All of the Scripture readings for today’s liturgy remind us of God’s unfailing love and faithfulness in drawing us back into His Love. Just as the “Kingdom of God” is like a tiny mustard seed, God is able to let that grow into a full-blown bush where the birds of the air find a nest. Yet too many of us only look at our failings and think that they are more than God can handle. How preposterous for us to think like that!

“Come back to me… and let my ‘mustard-seed faith’ grow in you.”

Just for today try to get rid of the notion that your failures or faults are too much for God to deal with and allow His love and forgiveness to begin to grow in your heart. Once you let go and let God you’ll be surprised to see how His love blossoms in your life.
